Update from the weekend...
Well, we (malice_demonic  and I) went to MidSummer's on Saturday morning...

It rained.

Luckily, the Hopkinton Fairgrounds have very large buildings.

So, I fenced indoors as it rained around us.  I got inspected, then had time for all of one practice bout (played with (heavy) rapier and dagger).   Then the Rapier Championship began.  This was a Round-Robin style, heavy rapier default match that combined Golden Foil and Baronial Championship matches.

Win.
Loss.
Win.
Loss.
Win.
Win.
Win.
Win.
Win.
Win.

Huh?  I hadn't practiced in MONTHS!  How in the names of whoever, did I manage to win against Dona Nataliia?!?

So it was time for the final rounds.  There was a 4 way tie for first place.  Jack the Black announced the responsibilities of Baronial Rapier Champions and allowed anyone who couldn't handle them to drop out.  Two dropped out.  That meant... Yup.  It was down to two of us - and now I was once again pitted against that tiny, teleporting, OGR who gave me one of my very first lessons in fencing, Dona Nataliia.  Jack the Black, our Marshall, announces that this would be best 2 of three and double kills would be re-faught.  He then goes on to give each of us a hint on how to beat the other and then... it was time.

Round One: Double Kill.
Round Two: Win (!)
Round three: Double Kill.
Bonus Round One: Loss.

...Score is tied, 1 to 1 in best 2 of three.

I begin to wonder how the hell I got this far without her wiping the floor with my now very sagging arse...

Bonus Round Two: (Sudden Death!) Loss.

No surprise there.  Dona Nataliia is one of the top 5 fencers I've ever faught.  I'm surprised I lasted that long.

And so it turns out....

Dona Nataliia, OGR is this year's Baron's Champion (even though she's from Carolingia) and due to some miracle or another, I held my own and am now Baronessa's Rapier Champion.

Saturday afternoon was the Royal Equestrian Championship, which comprised of rings, quintain, and spear.  I was a bit sad that more people didn't participate.  There were only about half a dozen riders.  I was also saddened that in the last round the best (in my opinion) rider had to bow out of the competion.

Saturday night, I joined macfrode  and willowanderer  and others at jackoutofthebox 's bar for drinking (OMFG the dandelion/ginger wine was AMAZING!) and bardic fun.  macfrode 's stories weren't as bad as he seems to think and as willowanderer  put it Avi, really did rock the house.  It was good to see all the usual suspects up there entertaining those of us with less musical talent than a lump of soggy clay.  As the crowd thinned out and I realised that I was nicely buzzing, it was bed time.  The Autocrat had been kind enough to allow us to put the tent *inside* one of the buildings so it was a dry though somewhat uncomfortable night sleep on the concrete.

Sunday was mostly uneventful... Court with the Baronessa, and the ride home was mostly uneventful.  Today I'm taking the day off and taking it easy as I recover from getting a wisdom tooth yanked (#2 of 4) this morning.

Re: You were THERE?
Sat night I was in the back leaning on the post in the middle of the room.

You may have missed me as I shaved off the goatee and mustache and got a bigger hat... and now that I have that pesky responsibility to the Baronessa, I was behind her in both the Royal and Baronial courts...

Re: A little bird told me this was your LJ...
Thanks!

Well, I've been busy... but I hope to make it tomorrow night. You might want to post to the Stonemarche list (and LJ community) soon...

Re: A little bird told me this was your LJ...
Hope you can make it. Kat and I are threatening to turn it into a stitch-and-bitch.

I don't belong to the stonemarche list (or LJ for that matter). Just thought I'd make sure you weren't dead. :)
